It is our great pleasure to announce Mr. Eric Johnson as the Head of School for Morey Montessori Public School Academy! Mr. Johnson will officially start his school duties on Monday, July 13, 2015.
Eric was born and raised in the mid-Michigan area. He attended Central Michigan University studying Business Education with minors in Leadership and Communications. Currently, he is near completion of his Masters of Arts in Charter School Leadership from CMU. Eric has a passion for working with programs and schools to help youth to be successful. He greatly enjoys the outdoors and staying active in the community.
Eric taught at West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science in Walker, Michigan for five years. During that time, he showed a passion for student growth through experiential learning. Eric greatly enjoyed traveling with students to serve an environmental need while leading several Service Learning Trips to Colorado, Texas, and New York. He also brought the innovative self-directed learning Entrepreneurial Program to WMAES, mentoring a select group of students through the start up of their own businesses over the course of four trimesters. This group not only fostered community among the students, but also prepared them for post-high school success.
We are also very pleased to announce that Margie Donovan will be serving as the school’s Montessori Specialist and Assistant Principal. This will enable Margie to support staff in the classroom and continue to evolve Morey’s Montessori program. This administrative structure will allow Eric the opportunity to develop programs to enhance students’ educational experience.
Eric is looking forward to the future of Morey Montessori and what the school team can achieve by creating innovative learning experiences for students and families.
“I am really looking forward to getting to know the school’s families and staff. From what I have heard, Morey has a passionate staff and an amazing group of parents who are willing to be involved in their children’s education,” Eric said. “I am also looking forward to being a part of a community similar to the one I grew up in (Freeland, MI), and the Mt. Pleasant area, where I lived for five years. Fire Up Chips! My wife, Aubrey, and I feel very connected to the community and blessed to be welcomed into it!”
