Preschool is an important time to set the tone for what school really is since this is the first full year of education for many students.

At SHCDC, we believe every student is unique and an individual. That being said, every student will learn differently and at various paces. While in preschool, your child will learn social skills and the basics of the school environment that will be very valuable for their years to come.

The Great Start Readiness Program

The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is an income-based program that provides funding for preschool programs for four-year-old children. The class meets Monday through Thursday. The staff follows a Montessori and High Scope Curriculum and observes students based on objectives set forth in the program in which individual goals are set for each student. This curriculum is nationally-known for its forward-thinking, comprehensive and rigorously researched model. It focuses on four main developmental topics: social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language. Through an ongoing cycle of observing children, guiding their learning and assessing their progress, this curriculum is personalized to target each child’s individual needs. The number one goal of our preschool program is to ensure children become enthusiastic learners. Through GSRP and our curriculum, your child will be just that!
