The school was all smiles and tears when student Conor Grandstaff received a surprise visit at his school’s holiday assembly

At Battle Creek Montessori Academy, kindergartener Conor Grandstaff received a surprise visit from his dad, Shawn Grandstaff, who has spent the last 10 weeks at Fort Leonard Wood, MS in Army boot camp. Conor had no idea that his dad was coming home for the holidays.

Conor’s reaction was priceless as he ran to his dad, yelling “daddy!” They embraced and both were all smiles. There was not a dry eye in the room.

Shawn was on a 2-week block to spend the holidays with his family and friends and will leave to Fort Eustis, VA where he will be in MOS training four months training to be an aircraft structural repair person.

“We are so thankful that we could be part of this reunion,” exclaimed Jes Eldrige, Head of School at Battle Creek Montessori Academy. “We are proud of our parents who sacrifice so much so our students can thrive. Conor is an amazing boy and we are grateful that he was able to spend quality time with his whole family for a few weeks.”
