Jes Eldridge, Principal of Battle Creek Montessori Academy was recently hand-selected to participate in the U.S. Capitol virtual “fly-in” congressional visits hosted by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. She met with Michigan’s Congressional Delegation to thank Members for their support, discuss the importance of the Charter Schools Program, highlight issues with access to facilities and infrastructure financing, as well as provide an update on charter schools in our state in the midst of a national pandemic.

“I was honored to participate in this event as the Michigan Charter School’s spokesperson,” said Jes Eldridge. “During my visits, I was able to have open conversations about the importance and value of charter schools, funding, infrastructure, and how our Michigan charters responded to the pandemic.”

Eldridge connected with eight delegates including, Representative Slotkin, Representative Meijer, Representative Fred Upton, Representative Huizenga, Representative Peters, Representative Moolenaar,  Representative Stabenow, and Representative Walberg’s office.

After the event, Nina Rees, CEO and President of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools commented, “The work that you started yesterday is just the beginning. We hope you will continue keeping them on your radar and ensure our movement is front and center for them in the year ahead.”

Thank you, Principal Jes, for advocating for the students in Michigan as well as representing the thousands of charter school educators throughout the state. We are proud of you!
