It is unlikely that paid salary continuation/sick/short-term disability leave benefits would run out due to illness from the COVID-19 virus. If teachers and staff are unable to return to work due to illness and have exhausted their sick leave or salary continuation, and FMLA leave (if applicable) they may request to be placed on an unpaid leave of absence. Faculty and staff may continue benefit coverage during an unpaid leave of absence by making premium payments.

School Operations
According to the Michigan Council of Charter School Authorizers, The Michigan Department of Education (“MDE”) is working with its vendors to plan for a variety of scenarios (see MDE’s March 13 memorandum for more information). It is our understanding that additional information will be provided by MDE regarding whether testing windows will be extended or changed.
The United States Department of Education (“USDOE”) issued a fact sheet on March 12 that included this topic and we are waiting for MDE to provide additional state-specific guidance.
According to the Michigan Council of Charter School Authorizers, at this time, we have no additional information from MDE on whether the hour, instruction day and percentage of students in daily attendance requirements will be amended or whether an extended school year schedule will be required. Some of this may depend on whether schools resume operations on April 6th. Some of this may also depend on Legislative action. As we receive additional information from MDE, we will be certain to update it here.
Yes, the March State Aid should not be interrupted. It is our understanding that the March state aid payment will be made as usual by the State of Michigan. Authorizers have confirmed that arrangements are in place to forward the March state school aid payments to schools or intercepts to third parties that have intercept agreements on file.
Yes, please consult the individual school websites for updated enrollment windows. If you need further assistance, please send the school an email.
