Setting a vision for the upcoming school year

Setting a vision for the upcoming school year

This past week we gathered in Lansing with all of our school leaders for our annual School Leadership Strategy Retreat to plan for the next school year. Even after a trying year, the vibe was hopeful and inspiring. We felt centered and focused and we attribute that to our work with visioning and goal setting. One of our favorite resources to share with fellow leaders and school boards is creating vision stories. At the beginning of every school year, all of our school leaders and staff create vision stories for the upcoming year. Of course, we draft goals and key performance indicators to support this, but vision stories are more than just a goal, it is a picture of what you desire in the future. A picture of what success looks like at a particular point in time in the future, described with enough richness of detail that we’ll know when we’ve arrived.

If you are a principal, board member, or leader of an organization, we’d love to share this awesome video created by Caryn Slater, our Director of Strategy and Growth, on how to create a vision story. Learn how by clicking on the video above to create your vision.
