March is Reading Month 2015

March is Reading Month is a time for schools, families, and communities to come together to celebrate reading! Not only does reading promote creativity, it also promotes literacy. By encouraging students to read, teachers and parents are enabling the child to absorb new information and new ideas.

All of our schools participated in March is Reading month. Here’s a recap of some of the great things we saw happening.

Three Oaks Public School Academy

While all of our schools’ March is Reading Month efforts gained attention online, this school in particular was recognized by their local news station for meeting their reading goal.. OH, and their principal singing a Miley Cyrus’ song while swinging on a (homemade) wrecking ball! New principal Mark Brunger held up his end of the deal after the Three Oaks students read a combined total of 18,058 books in one month.

Principal Brunger said, “The goal was for the students to read 12,000 books and if the students pulled it off, I would do a stunt for them… They beat the goal by reading 18,058 books so they really wanted me to sing Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus… It was worth every second! Thank you Three Oaks students. You WRECKED that challenge!”

Muskegon Montessori Academy for Environmental Change

Muskegon Montessori Academy for Environmental Change’s Kindergarten class had a furry friend come in for March is Reading Month! It looks like their reading friend wanted to sit on Ms. Sue’s lap!
