FCMA Student Wins White House National Student Art Competition for K-3

Four Corners Montessori Academy third grader, Gabrielle Faisal, goes viral after winning a national art competition garnering attention from Good Morning America, Yahoo and local Detroit news outlets.
FCMA student Gabby holding her art projectThis honor comes after she won the White House National Student Art Competition for K-3 category with her painting, Enslaved African Americans Built the White House. Her art was joined by over 500 competitors and Gabrielle won 1st place and top prize money! 

I was inspired to paint this picture because of the history I read and learned from my father,” said Gabrielle. “The White House is a symbol of America that was built by enslaved African Americans. The Red Stripes symbolize our struggle for freedom. The White Stripes symbolize the purity of our struggle. Blue is the symbol of justice for all people no matter what color. The Stars represent the unity of all people coming together. The shackled hands are the hands of enslaved Africans who built the White House.”
