Teacher Spotlight: W. Terry Treman of West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science

West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science (WMAES) and Choice Schools would like to thank W. Terry Treman, a Middle School Social Studies teacher, as a man who has dedicated 11+ years of his time and energy to the students, staff and members of the WMAES community.

When asked what he loves most about his job and being a member of WMAES, Treman said, “I really enjoy watching students grow and discover themselves. In middle school, you get to see a lot of this. It’s great, and sharing this with fellow teachers is wonderful.”

The advice he has given to his colleagues and students is to focus on what we, the people living on Earth together, have in common, rather than how we differ. And to enjoy one another!

Treman says that one of his favorite memories was the time the WMAES staff did a flash-mob dance to a medley of popular songs at the talent show. “It was a blast, and the students loved it,” he explained.

Outside of the WMAES community, Treman enjoys spending time with his family and friends, traveling, outdoor activities, and music.

Treman shared some witty yet wise words on his plans for retirement. “For me, retirement is a lot like graduating from school. I have great ideas about what I want to do, but there are so many choices,” he said. “It is hard to know what I really want to be. I guess figuring out what to do when I grow up remains a question to deal with. I’ll have to nap on it,” he added.
